Ball Valves

A ball valve is a type of flow control device commonly used in industrial, commercial, and residential piping systems. It utilizes a hollow, perforated, and pivoting ball to regulate the flow of liquids or gases. When the valve is in the open position, the hole in the ball aligns with the pipeline, allowing flow. When turned 90 degrees by a handle or actuator, the solid side of the ball blocks the flow, effectively shutting off the passage.

Gate Valves

A gate valve is a linear motion valve used primarily to start or stop the flow of fluid in a pipeline. It operates by lifting a gate or wedge out of the path of the fluid. When fully open, gate valves provide minimal flow restriction and pressure drop, making them ideal for applications that require free-flowing media and infrequent operation.

Gate valves are not designed for throttling purposes, as partially open gates can suffer from vibration, erosion, and seat damage. They are best suited for systems where the valve remains either fully open or fully closed for extended periods.

Butterfly Valves

A butterfly valve is a quarter-turn valve used to regulate or isolate the flow of fluids in a pipeline. It consists of a circular disc mounted on a rotating shaft. When the valve is fully open, the disc is rotated to align with the flow, allowing fluid to pass through. When closed, the disc is turned perpendicular to the flow, effectively sealing the passage.

Butterfly valves are compact, lightweight, and cost-effective compared to other types of valves such as gate or ball valves, especially in larger pipe sizes. They offer quick operation and can be operated manually with a handle or gear, or automatically using pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic actuators.

Check Valves

A check valve is a type of one-way valve that allows fluid (liquid or gas) to flow in one direction only, preventing backflow in a piping system. It operates automatically and does not require manual operation or external control. When fluid flows in the correct direction, the valve opens; when flow reverses, the valve closes to stop backflow.

Check valves are essential in systems where reverse flow could cause damage, contamination, or disruption, such as in pumps, compressors, and pipelines. They help maintain system pressure and protect equipment from pressure surges and water hammer.

Globe Valves

A globe valve is a type of linear motion valve used to start, stop, and regulate flow in a pipeline. It gets its name from its spherical body shape, which contains an internal baffle that divides the valve into two halves. The valve operates by moving a disc or plug (connected to a stem) up and down perpendicular to the seat, which controls the flow of fluid.

Globe valves are known for their excellent throttling capabilities and precise flow control, making them ideal for applications where regulation is needed. When the valve is open, fluid flows through a winding path, which results in higher pressure drop compared to gate or ball valves.
